Rae Morris is an Australian makeup artist, author, and beauty educator as well as founder of her own professional-quality makeup brush line.
As well as a busy career in editorial makeup for top brands and A-list celebrities, she created her eponymous makeup brush range to bring together the artisan expertise of Japanese brush makers with a clever magnetic storage system that makes organisation and storage easy and chic. The brushes are available online and at MECCA.
No stranger to a glamourous event, we asked Rae to tell us about when she felt great and what she loves to do in the lead up to a party, or moment that will be captured on film.
Can you tell us about an occasion when you felt incredibly glam?
One of the most glam moments, aside from my wedding day, was my portrait session with Master Yoshiki Uematsu, shot by Steven Chee.
I wore YSL, Prada shoes, Frankie Shop pants, and had a glam team do my makeup, which felt special since I usually do it myself. My makeup was foundation-free with Hourglass mascara and a blurred lip.

How do you prepare for a big event beauty-wise?
In the weeks before, I focus on my skin with red light therapy using the Dr Dennis Gross mask, 111SKIN products, and lots of hydration.
I avoid the sun and I really watch what I eat.
I also avoid overdoing facials but love seeing my facialist and recently started using Lumixa, a no-downtime laser treatment that’s really improved my skin texture.
What do you swear by for a pre-party pick-me-up?
I love Allies of Skin Vitamin C and Peptide & Antioxidant Daily Moisture Treatment. Their Multi Hyaluronic Antioxidant Hydration Serum is also a game-changer.
Before heading out, I always throw on a triple-skin face mask.
My new secret weapon is, after finishing my nightly skincare routine, applying nappy rash cream (like Sudocrem) because of the zinc content.

Best tip for looking great on the day, or night?
Skip the highlighter to avoid overly shiny skin in photos. I prefer a semi-matte look with the Rae Morris Invisible Mattifier and stick to cream-based products for lasting wear.
For lips, I’m into the blurred lip trend with VIOLETTE_FR Petal Bouche Matte Lipstick, which is bold and long-lasting.

What do you always carry with you on a night out, or for a party?
I always carry NARS Soft Matte Complete Concealer, Rae Morris Invisible Mattifier, a mirror, lip balm, mints, and hand cream.
Fragrance your reach for?
I love men’s colognes. I used to wear Maison Francis Kurkdjian’s Lumière Noire, but since it’s discontinued, I now wear Comme des Garçons Wonderwood, which my husband wears. I love the deep, masculine scent.
