Dries Van Noten’s chic lipstick and fragrance launches Down Under

Dries Van Noten is one of Belgium’s best known and loved fashion designers. A master of colour and print juxtaposition, his ready-to-wear collections have become sought-after by those that admire their refined shapes, often contrasted with bold and dramatic  prints.

It’s this inventiveness the designer has also channeled into an equally chic beauty line.

That fondness for unlikely pairings is evident in the range, about to launch into MECCA across Australia and New Zealand.

Among the items we’ll know be able to shop are 10 gender-neutral eau de parfums and lipsticks in stunning duo-coloured glass bottles and metal cases, made of recycled materials and each able to be refilled.

The beauty line has been created in collaboration with Puig, the Spanish beauty and fashion conglomerate, and though Van Noten recently stepped down from designing his namesake label, he’s still overseeing the success of the burgeoning beauty offering.

Not content for a simple toe-dip into the category, Dries Van Noten’s well developed beauty offering also includes a selection of hand creams, bar soaps, and travel pouches as well as beauty accessories such as resin mirrors, pochettes and combs.

MECCA says through lipsticks are the first cosmetic offering, to be followed by a complete collection for the face, eyes and nails.

Made from at least 85% natural ingredients, the perfume collection comes with refillable and collectible cases that are made with recycled materials and different glass and porcelain prints.

Similarly, the lipstick collection consisting of sheer, satin and matte finishes is housed in collectible and refillable cases in contrasting top and bottoms made from the likes of ceramic and embossed leather. 

Van Noten told Vogue he didn’t want  “easygoing” perfumes.  “I think there’s already so much out there in the market. The idea was that every perfume really tells a story—in my fashion, I’m also a storyteller.”

Instead, expect contrasting elements that create something entirely new. He worked with different perfumers to create the collection that includes ‘rebellious and flamboyant’ Raving Rose, that combines the bloom with pink and black pepper, ‘wild and sensitive’ Cannabis Patchouli, clashing green and woody notes, and ‘elaborate and seductive’ Soie Malaquais, that has elements of chestnut and silk. 

Each bottle comes with a patterned fabric bag, made with fabric upcycled from previous fashion collections by the brand.

Dries Van Noten’s collection of fragrances, make-up and beauty accessories will be available to shop exclusively at select MECCA stores and online from August 27th, 2024.
