While the fashion collections shown won’t be landing until February next year in time for the northern summer, the makeup trend dominating shows is easy to adopt right now.
While there is much excitement around the arrival of Prada’s new makeup line, and its chic new matte lipsticks, surprisingly the beauty mood across runways in Paris and Milan generally embraced a more shiny texture.
Even Prada itself embraced gloss, although it was swept across the eyes using a single coral hue from the new makeup range and topped with a sticky-looking shiny finish.
‘The eyeshadow wasn’t about a shape, it was about covering the lid from the lash to the brow so it’s very strong,’ Prada Beauty Global Creative Makeup Artist Lynsey Alexander told Elle. ‘I used the skincare (serum) to create this amazing wet, lacquered skin so it looked like glass.’
Elsewhere it was all about reflective shine on the lips.

At Missoni, Hannah Murray used Bobbi Brown products to add a twist to ‘90s-inspired minimalistic skin.
“There was a lightness to the collection that Filippo Grazioli [Missoni’s creative director] wanted to bring into the beauty,” Murray told WWD.
“I loved the idea of having a stripped-back modern face using gloss on the eyelids and cheekbones to create texture and then this sheer, yet vibrant, sunset orange wet-look lip taking center stage.”
At Gucci global color and makeup artist Thomas de Kluyver added a cherry lip with patent shine for the inaugural show of Sabato De Sarno as the brand’s new creative director.
De Kluyver used an entirely new red lipstick shade chosen by De Sarno and called “Gucci Rosso Ancora” to create the model’s look, where the rest of skin was understated but lightly perfected with the brand’s new Concentré de Beauté concealer.
At Burberry, models lips were painted with mirror-shine gloss in either a brick hue or a head-turning dramatic shade of forest green.
